Expose the mounting adhesive.
Remove the backing from the mounting plate’s adhesive pad. Keep fingers off the adhesive so it can make good contact with the lid.

Mount the plate inside the lid.
Clean and dry a flat area in the centre of the tank lid. Press the plate firmly in place for ten seconds, with the locking hooks facing into the tank.

Add three AA batteries.
Insert three AA alkaline batteries, following the polarity markings. The setup light turns on while SaltMate prepares to connect.

A short twist. A secure fit.
Align the monitor with the plate, push into place, and turn clockwise to the stop. Replace the lid with the sensor facing down at the salt.

Connect once. Check from anywhere.
Join SaltMate’s temporary WiFi network from your phone, return to the app, and choose your home’s 2.4 GHz WiFi. The app guides you through linking the monitor and setting your tank depth.

What to know about fit, readings, batteries, and getting connected.
Will SaltMate fit my water softener?
SaltMate mounts to a flat area inside the brine-tank lid, with an unobstructed view of the salt below. The enclosure is 109.2 mm across and 33.4 mm high, with a slightly raised button. Check for mounting clearance and a usable 2.4 GHz WiFi signal at the tank before purchasing.
How does it measure the salt?
An integrated time-of-flight laser sensor measures the distance to the salt surface. The app combines that distance with your configured tank depth to calculate a fill percentage. An uneven salt surface or an obstruction can affect the reading; it is not a measurement of salt weight or water hardness.
Is the reading live all the time?
SaltMate sleeps between scheduled readings to conserve battery power. The default is one reading every six hours, and the interval is adjustable in settings. Press the monitor’s button for a fresh reading sooner. The app always shows when the last reading was taken.
Which batteries does it use?
Three replaceable AA alkaline batteries. Battery life depends on your reading schedule, WiFi conditions, and usage. SaltMate does not recharge the batteries. The app shows battery status and supports a battery-replacement push alert.
What does setup require?
You need a compatible brine-tank lid, three AA alkaline batteries, the SaltMate mobile app, and an internet-connected 2.4 GHz WiFi network. During setup, your phone joins a temporary SaltMate WiFi network so the app can pass your home network details to the monitor. No separate hub is required.
How do alerts and forecasts work?
Choose your low-salt threshold in the app and enable phone notifications. Alerts depend on a successful sensor reading, an internet connection, and notification permission. Refill-date and salt-cost estimates appear after enough usage history is collected; they are estimates, not guaranteed dates or costs.
Can I check it on my computer?
Yes. Sign in to the web dashboard with the same SaltMate account to see your linked devices and their latest readings. Use the mobile app for initial WiFi setup and phone notifications.
Is it waterproof?
No. The sensor opening is not sealed, and the enclosure is not rated as waterproof or dust-tight. Keep SaltMate above the salt and water, protect it from splashes and submersion, and keep the optical opening clear.
